Fiskerton Recycling Centre safe for the time being

by Peter Harris on 23 June, 2012

In an earlier post after our campaing to keep the Recycling Centre open I pointed out that the County Council still planned to close the Fiskerton Road Recyling Centre this year [June 2012].

After our furtherĀ  recent campaign, the County Council have now said that they will keep it open for two more years. They insist that the Recycling Centre can stay as the planning permission is only there because of the Landfill Tip next door.

The County Council are saying that as the Landfill Site is still ‘open’ the Recycling Centre can stay.

This is complete nonsense. After our campaign to keep the recycling centre at Fiskerton two years ago there will be almost no opposition to retaining the Household Waste Recycling Centre [HWRC] on Fiskerton Road. The fact that the County Council has tied the HWRC to the Landfill Site is a mess of gigantic proportions.

The Landfill Site is not being used – it should be closed and the HWRC have separate planning permission. We should not have to go through the rigmarole every few years of trying to keep the HWRC open by the figment of keeping the Landfill Site ‘open’ [but no lorries dumping landfill] just because of an incompetent County Council decision.
