Figures released to the Safer Neighbourhood Group chaired by Peter Harris show that crime has fallen across the villages. Detection rates for crimes in our area have risen.

Thanks are due to our local Neighbourhood Team of PC Tony Hayes and PCSO Richard Dunn for their active work in the villages.

It is vital for our area that Southwell Police Station is kept open. Unfortunately the Conservative candidate in the Lowdham byelection sought to close Southwell Police Station. The Tories pressed for a massive reduction in rental paid to the Town Council or close the Police Station.

Fortunately, the Lib Dem Council managed to negotiate a smaller reduction of the rent paid, so that the subsidy paid by the Town to the Police has increased significantly, but ensures that the Police Station is kept open.

The agreement will last for four years – we will see what the Conservatives will do after that time!
