Campaigner for Southwell & Villages Learn more

I want to see community pubs across Southwell and Caunton thriving. I am very pleased to see that the Department of Communities and Local Government DCLG has announced a fund of £150,000 for ‘Pub is the Hub’ which supports community pubs to innovate and expand their services to offer more to the local community.
Additionally the government is also doubling small business rate relief from £6,000 to £12,000 until March 2014 and the Localism Act has made it easier for firms to claim small business rate relief. I will support local pubs to get this relief. The Coalition Government’s’ new National Insurance Contribution relief for employers, wiping away the first £2,000 of their employer National Insurance Contributions will also be important for our local pubs. The reduction of the Beer Escalator is another filup for local pubs, and one I joined CAMRA’s lobby for.
Having closed pubs like the Old Plough in Egmanton is devastating for our communities – let us work together to keep our locals ‘local’.
Newark CAMRA’s Award of Merit is to be awarded to The Final Whistle, Southwell on Saturday 6th April 2013 at 3pm.
