County Council ditches 20mph

by Peter Harris on 16 April, 2013

It seems that the County Council has given up on residents’ calls for a 20mph zone in their residential areas.

The County Council have put 20mph zones inthe ditch - they are letting Southwell's residents down again.

Sadly, despite calls for a slow speed zone across Southwell, the County Council has ceased to implement a 20mph zone anywhere in Southwell. Now, they even say that they are  not prepared to have one outside schools.

This follows the County Council failing to put in a safe road crossing at Holy Trinity Infant School. All the County Council did was put in a small pavement extension.

‘This is not a proper crossing,’ said one parent. ‘We do not want a wider pavement  – but a full crossing.’

Road safety for pedestrians seems way down the County Council’s priorities.

Lib Dems are committed to introducing a 20mph zone in Southwell – and are campaigning for a pedestrian crossing at both Holy Trinity School on Westgate – and at Southwell Green and Southwell Care Home on Newark Road. These are both places where vulnerable residents try to cross busy roads. Yet again, Southwell has been let down by the Council.
