Lobbying for road maintenance – a success for Lower Kirklington Road

by Peter Harris on 28 February, 2013

I have just heard from Peter Topliss the County Council’s Senior Project Engineer (Newark Area) Tel 01623 873937 that Lower Kirklington Road Southwell (between Kirklington Road and Springfield Road) will have carriageway resurfacing – Peter says that this is ‘ dependent on Severn Trent schemes in the area being complete so may be deferred to 2014.’

Peter Harris and the Focus Team have campaigned to get the resurfacing of
Lower Kirklington Road after Severn Trent Water have completed their
sewer works. The sewer works are welcome as they will reduce the chances
of flood and sewer water going into residents’ gardens on
Leeway Road and Lower Kirklington Road.

We are delighted that the County Council have now agreed to resurface the road –
after the STW work is completed.

Peter Topliss also reports that the Nottingham Road Southwell Footway between Park Lane and Brackenhurst College footway is collapsing into the adjacent field. This repair, which is for an important footpath for students and other residents walking to Brackenhurst, is programmed for 15th April for approx 3 weeks.

I am seeing the Highways officers in a few days time and if you wish to have input into these schemes, please let me know by mailing southwellf9ocus@gmail.com

In future I have been promised that as schemes are issued to the new Highway Design and Programme Delivery group,I will be sent copies of the information so that you can be aware of the schemes and know who the Project Manager. This will enable you to comment on plans – and even their implementation, well before the work is finalised.

This is a real success for the lobbying that we have done – and I will report back in future
