Inspection of the District Council’s Plan for housing around the edge of Southwell

by Peter Harris on 30 October, 2012

Christine Thorby the Inspector for the District Council’s plans for the Southwell area will carry out her inspection 11-13th  and 18-20th December 2012. at Kelham Hall.

She has said that she will be asking three questions on Southwell:

Would the scale, density and greenfield location of allocated sites be appropriate and contribute to the sustainable development of the District?

Do the policies include adequate and appropriate safeguards with regard to the potential effects of development on the historic environment, flooding and biodiversity? Has satisfactory provision been made in respect of transport and other infrastructure requirements? and

Is there uncertainty over funding and delivery of the by-pass and, if so, is the Plan sufficiently flexible to cope with this?

I will be attending the inquiry and presenting the data which I have already submitted. I hope that the Inspector will take more heed of local opinion than the previous inspector. Unfortunately the previous Inspector, who is not taking this Hearing, ignored local views and supported the Conservative District Councils’ s plans for a large expansion of Southwell’s 4-5 bedroom houses on the outskirts of our town!
