The Town Council is proposing to open up the footpath from Harveys and Minster Fields alongside the stream. A footbridge over the entrance to Squires Pond is needed after the previous bridge was taken down over a decade ago.
The Town applied for a small grant from a fund called the Local Area Agreement, which had surplus of over £50,000. The grant was for £1,600. However, the initial meeting of the Conservative controlled board turned down the idea, instead supporting projects that it has not funded from the District Council’s own money.
After lobbying, and my raising this issue publicly, the District Council has made a U turn, and has now awarded the grant. The Town Council is looking for other funding to complete the footpath early next year.
